I began my yoga journey over a decade ago. I have since been teaching in Austria, Germany, Thailand, Egypt and Canada. As a graduate of the University of St. Louis I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in both International Politics and Business Administration. I have been practicing martial arts for the past 37 years and am enjoying its benefits. I love the outdoors, frequenting mountains on my snowboard here and abroad, and practicing yoga. With the help from local organic farmers I learned to grow organic fruits and vegetables in my own backyard.

Brian is Yoga Alliance certified through the Kula Yoga Teacher Training Program with Colin Matthews. His teaching style is a hybrid style that’s been influenced primarily by practicing and studying Baptist, Anusara, Moksha, and Ashtanga. Some of the workshops and seminars Brian has attended and participated in feature such teachers as Sue Elkind, Sianna Sherman and Naime Jezzeny.
Various health issues and encouragement from his daughter brought Brian to Yoga. The realization of the ability of Yoga to facilitate the healing of the body immediately became evident. The aspect of it being practiced in a heated room just made practical sense to the enhancement and re-gaining of some flexibility and strength. In addition, the awakening of mental and spiritual awareness and subsequent benefits that accompanied the physical aspect, evolved into a daily Yoga practice and a passion and yearning to learn more. The “Shunyata” or emptiness and openness that can be achieved with a Yoga practice which then allows growth and rebuilding, is a concept that immediately resonated with Brian from his athletic background and has been a life changing experience he wants to share.
Brian’s classes are generally considered to be “Power Flow/Vinyasa” but also utilize the more static postures in the cool down portion. It’s a physically active, high energy experience that also provides opportunity to rest and relax body and mind. Music, and often non-traditional music to Yoga usually accompanies the instruction, to encourage the concept that if we can learn to take the focus, the peace, the calm, the inner quiet that we can develop on our mat, amidst distractions, then perhaps we can also utilize those same skills more readily and find clarity in the often chaotic world we find ourselves in, off of our mat. The breath is the single most important aspect of the class. Not only would we die without it, but proper breathing is also vital to our ability to recover from the physical exertion and receive to our maximum, the benefits offered by our Yoga practice. Again, we empty ourselves, to be open to receive.

Following more than two decades in varying corporate administrative positions within the winemaking industry, Danny’s growing penchant for wellness and physical conditioning eventually lead him to pursue a career in health and fitness. Shortly before attaining certifications in fitness assessment and personal training, Danny was introduced to yoga while traveling abroad on the island of Kauai. This initial introduction to Hatha yoga piqued Danny’s interest. However, it wasn’t until shortly afterwards, upon his return to Canada, while attending his first Hot Yoga class that Danny experienced a truly cathartic revelation. From the outset, it was clearly evident that the awareness and inter-connectivity that yoga cultivates was an ideal complement to the rigors of conventional fitness. In the summer of 2004, Danny registered and subsequently graduated from the inaugural Moksha Teacher Training certification program consisting of over 800 hours of study. Danny has since studied with many highly accredited teachers including David Life, Paul Grilley, Judith Lasater, Baron Baptiste and John Friend. Danny’s love and passion for yoga grows with every passing day. Danny credits his teachers, students and family for helping him to attain a greater understanding and appreciation of connection, compassion and awareness.

A lifelong athlete, Diane was brought to her first hot yoga class in order to rehabilitate a knee injury. It only took one class for her to realize the multiplicity of benefits to the mind, body and spirit provided by the practice of Asana. As a full-time personal trainer, Diane advocates the complimentary effects of a regular yoga practice to athletes from all disciplines, and recommends its incorporation to her clients. Diane’s journey towards the yogic path was by no means a straight one. Never feeling ‘quite right’ in the corporate world, Diane spent most of her 20’s studying, she holds a B.A. in International Politics, a Diploma in Business-Marketing and minors in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Diane credits the commencement of her yoga practice with helping her to get in touch with her most ‘authentic self’ and helping her to find her place in this world, helping others to realize their health and wellness potential. Moksha yoga gave Diane the insight and inspiration necessary to leave the corporate world behind, where she worked as a marketing manager in the promotional industry and pursue a work that she truly loves, as a personal trainer and yoga instructor. Diane travelled to Hawaii, where she completed the five week intensive portion of Moksha’s 500 hour teacher certification program. Diane has since continued her exploration with the study of Anusara yoga, under Naime Jezzeny, Sue Elkind and John Friend himself, in Miami Florida. Diane is an ambassador for Lululemon, as they both recognize and appreciate her heart-centered and joyful teaching style. Diane has a passion for community service and regularly volunteers her time at local soup kitchens and retirement homes. Her passion found affinity with Moksha Yoga, who shares Diane’s commitment to community involvement and environmental integrity. Having made yoga her life’s work, Diane really feels as though she has finally come home after years of searching. As yoga combines her two lifelong loves of physical fitness and the ongoing study of philosophy and spirituality.

Dominique Sy has been studying and practicing the art of yoga for over 8 years. She was first drawn to the yoga practice at York University to help her balance her student life. She has become a devoted practitioner and her interest in yoga has led her to study yoga in Thailand as well as Canada. She received her yoga Teacher Training at the Yoga Centre of Burlington and passed with the Honour of Distinction. She is a full time yoga teacher and continues to attend classes, workshops and retreats to enrich her teaching and deepen her own yoga practice. As a graduate of York University Dominique holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Society.
She is deeply grateful for the gift of yoga, which promotes not only the physical and mental strength but also the spiritual strength. She believes that anybody can benefit from yoga and encourages others to build a solid foundation for their practice through breath, postural alignment, and inner awareness. Her classes vary from a free flowing vinyasa to Yin and Hatha yoga classes emphasizing both strength and surrender. These are the qualities she feels we both need on and off our yoga mats. In her classes expect a wholesome practice with an emphasis on being true to yourself, and connecting with the qualities of the heart like kindness, joy and compassion.

Erin was practicing yoga for a few years before she tried a Moksha class…she was forever changed! Being a bit of a ‘type-a’ workaholic and suffering from anxiety and insomnia, hot yoga was positively life changing. Through fundraising work with arthritis and chronic pain patients she saw that yoga could be transformational on countless levels. Inspired by other teachers in the community, she knew the best way to affect change in the world was to become a teacher.
Erin is also the founder of Power of Movement, a yoga fundraiser for arthritis research, which will grow to cities across Canada in 2009…something that was inspired by Moksha teacher Dorna Chee. The idea of bringing better health and greater peace into our community through yoga is what gets her up in the morning!
Erin is happiest in the sun with a book. And some chocolate.

Holly is someone who would describe herself as having a youthful spirit, but a ripened soul. Almost 10 years ago, the pressures of school, a competitive swimming stint, and all of the other challenges life throws into the mix left Holly longing for a little more peace in her life, and a need to reconnect. Ultimately, this led her to participate in her first hatha yoga class, and shortly thereafter Yoga became the Yin to Holly’s Yang.
Holly has participated in over 1000 hours of Hatha and Moksha yoga (hot series) training. The latter enabled her to travel across the world to India for a life-changing, mind-opening, heart-BURSTING experience. During this time she spent 30 days with some of the most incredible people on the planet...who in turn became life-long friends.
Having spent her undergraduate degree studying earth sciences, and consumer culture, Holly really values Moksha’s commitment to making responsible environmental choices. In a world so wrapped up in consumption and excess, communities like Moksha cultivate atmospheres where progressive ideology can soar. A passionate advocate for healthy living and life-learning, Holly believes in asking questions...lots of questions, and diving deep below the surface as that is where the real treasures lie. Holly practices regularly and aspires to complete the Baptiste Power Flow method and begin her Anusara training in the new year.
Holly’s classes reflect her contagious passion for yoga. Her path has been guided by brilliant and enlightening teachers who have not only truly been mentors, but have enabled Holly to live life with a full heart, a calm mind, and an awakened spirit.

Jennifer first discovered Yoga and Meditation at the age of 16. It provided a welcome antidote to the stresses and strains of Professional Ballet training. After more than 30 years of practice and study and 15 years of teaching, Yoga remains a portal to the infinite to explore her connection to the divine.
"As a dancer I demanded performance of my body. As a Yogini I enter into a loving conversation with my body, gently listening for its wisdom and using my inner vision to direct and guide."
Jennifer's favourite form of Yoga to date is Anusara Yoga. Anusara Yoga means flowing with grace and following your heart. It's philosophy speaks of blessing everything that is life enhancing. Through Anusara Yoga Jennifer has learnt amazing alignment principles that have been truly transformative.
Jennifer is also a Shiatsu therapist and a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist with a practice in Burlington. She is excited to be joining the teaching team at Moksha Yoga to continue sharing her passion for Yoga.

When I was 16 I went skiing with a girlfriend and her family for the March break. On the last day of our week long holiday I fell and tore my ACL in my right knee. That August I had surgery on my knee to repair the damage... During my recovery period I practiced yoga to regain my range of motion. I recovered fully, went back to swimming full time and never gave yoga a second thought…until I graduated from university.
When I graduated from the University of Toronto I had been a swimmer for 14 years; it was a huge part of my identity. After graduating I had no idea what to do with my life; I was terrified. I started to practice yoga with my mom and little sister and fell in love! Practicing yoga helped me make the transition from student life to working life more balanced. My yoga practice helped teach me how to take deep breaths, listen and trust myself more fully so that I could continue moving forward loving life!
I love to spend time with friends; whether I am: running with a friend, skiing with my family, sitting on the cottage dock with a friend reading, traveling the globe, or just a couple of girls hanging out, being surrounded by loving, friendly, smiling, faces it is my favorite way to spend my time.

After 6 years of weight training my body really needed something else, that something else, was yoga and all that it has to offer. I wasn’t aware that something tremendously amazing in my life was absent and needed until my first yoga experience. I am very grateful that the fitness club where I worked out at offered different yoga styles. Ater my first class I immediately knew that yoga could not only benefit my weight training goals, but that it could inspire me to have increased awareness of the body-mind-spirit connection. After competing in two fitness shows I realized how important it is to not only be physically fit on the outside, but also to be functional with our bodies in our everyday lives. I’m a strong believer in “beauty is within.” Practicing yoga has inspired me to run marathons, and race triathlons (swimming, cycling, & running). When I am not training for a race I enjoy pilates, belly dancing, and dragon boating. I feel that it’s really important to have consistency and variety in life!
In my past life, I was a Personal Trainer & Fitness Consultant. Balancing health and wellness has always been my key focus. My passion is to share my enthusiasm and knowledge with people through the practice of yoga asana (postures) and pranayama (the yogic breath).
One of my favorite quotes: “Discipline has to do less to do with accomplishment and more to do with intention and with commitment.”

Mike’s yoga journey began in the wee hours in a hot studio somewhere in Toronto. He was forever changed and immediately captivated. One of Mike’s favourite facts to share, is that he was the very first student to sign up for the first ever Moksha Yoga Teacher Training. Mike has also studied Anusra and studied Ujjayi breathing with Michael Stone. He also completed the 200 hour Anusara teacher training at Yogaphoria.
His approach to teaching is to always include humour, fun and a good dose of unpredictability! Mike’s kind heart and dedicated practice shine through his instruction.
If you’re lucky, you can still find him around town playing pool or spending time close to the earth in his garden.

Natalie is a certified yoga instructor and has been a yoga practitioner since 2005. Since that time, Natalie completed a year long teacher training program at the Yoga Centre of Burlington where she earned her certification, as well as other teacher training intensives throughout North America. She has a background in Iyengar, Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga, but continues to explore the many different paths the world of yoga has to offer.
Natalie’s goal is to provide a passionate, dynamic and invigorating experience to her students that incorporate both the physical and spiritual aspects of the yoga practice. She is deeply inspired by the teachings of Seane Corn who so eloquently puts it when she says, “It takes practicing yoga everyday to make me a relatively nice person”. Natalie believes that yoga teaches us not only strength, flexibility and grace of the body, but of the mind as well. She believes that our practice is meant to be about more that just the physical, and that it is meant to give us a deeper understanding of who we are.

Rebecca came to yoga as a last resort to relieve extreme back pain and migraines from years of dance training compounded by a serious car accident. Within the first week, she was already seeing benefits in the practice. As the years pass she continues to see improvements in her back and a virtual disappearance of her migraines.
Rebecca has been teaching dance for over 9 years, and is thrilled to now be involved in the yoga community as an instructor. She continues to study rigorously receiving both a Yin Intensive Training certificate and her Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy levels 1 and 2. She also has just recently returned from completing Moksha Yoga Level 2 training this past fall.
She has worked in women and children’s services managing operations of family and women’s homeless shelters and supported housing environments across the country. She holds an honours degree from the University of Toronto and continues work as a Child and Youth Worker in Toronto.
She is overjoyed to return to her hometown of Burlington to share this transformative practice!

Shanine was first introduced to yoga while studying massage therapy in South Africa. She went on to try the business world, studying Business Management at the University of South Africa before immigrating to Canada in 2001. She later earned a diploma in Business, Marketing and went on to work in the corporate world. Trying to find an escape from the office during the day, she would go to the local gym during her lunch time and take yoga classes. It was then that she realized yoga was her passion. Coming onto the mat, a new beginning was created, and she was able to forget the world and be with herself, her breath, her body. Shanine completed her yoga teacher training with her beautiful teacher, Nesta Falladown, in Burlington, and is also a certified prenatal yoga teacher. She teaches Flow, Hatha, Asthanga, Yin and Restorative. Shanine is also a Reiki practitioner and is currently working towards her Meditation Facilitator designation. She volunteers at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, teaching restorative and gentle yoga, helping her students find some peace and healing within through yoga and laughter. Shanine teaches from the heart and encourages her students that when they step onto their mats, their yoga comes from the heart. Explore the body, mind and inner light with joy and courage. As B.K.S. Iyengar says, “It is through your body that you realize you are a spark of divinity.” We can find freedom when we open our hearts to everything around us and remain open to the ever changing world around us. Moving from one pose to the next reminds us of this – to look at each pose in its unique beauty, another opportunity to learn more about ourselves. Once we find the joy within and see our light shine stronger, we start to see the light in others and recognize the beauty in sharing yoga with each other.

"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be." Having spent a lifetime creating an image of who and what she thought she ought to be, it was when Tea’s foundation began to crumble from the ground up, that she realized it was time for some serious self-examination.
Always having been one to question, analyze, and doubt, Tea majored in Psychology and Philosophy at York University. However, it was through learning about yoga’s inner traditions that Tea began to rely less on her intellectual ability in taking in information and more on the felt body sense in being able to sort through inner knowledge/wisdom. Having turned to yoga at a difficult period in her life, it was during her Moksha Teacher Training that Tea finally began to fully realize the abundant benefits of yoga on a physical, psychological, as well as spiritual level.
It is with heart and passion, as well as a beginner’s mind, that she continues to pursue her yoga studies; and it is with compassion and love that she passes on her knowledge to students. Namaste.

Loving kindness towards ourselves is the most important thing we can foster. Only then can we extend our love and light outwards toward everyone we touch. Of the many lessons Yoga has taught Victoria, this has been the most valuable.
After a difficult childhood, Victoria enrolled into York University as a mature student earning degrees in Sociology and Social Science. Her spirit and perseverance led to a career path in education. She graduated with a Bachelor in Education from OISE/UT in 1999. It was the ideal platform to empower students to achieve their goals regardless of their current life positions, and also share her passion for a healthy active lifestyle by becoming a Physical Education teacher. Over the past 6 years, Victoria has also been a running coach, personal trainer and group fitness instructor.
After qualifying for and running the Boston Marathon, Victoria began looking for a program to help stretch and repair her muscles between runs. She became curious about the benefits of yoga. Yoga also appealed to her because of her nutritional regime and lifestyle choices. Victoria has been a vegan for over 16 years and has an 8 year old who also is also vegan. Yoga philosophies of compassion, connectedness, altruism, and non-harming attracted her to learn more about what Yoga had to offer.
After sampling a few different yoga styles, She found herself still searching for something that "fit". On a cold February night in 2005, Victoria, craving the heat, participated in her first Moksha Yoga class. She has not looked back! Like a good work out, Moksha provided the challenge, the great sweat and the focus Victoria was looking for. But unlike sports and fitness classes, Moksha provided a quiet, non-competitive space, and a new philosophy of self-acceptance and love. Years of enduring emotional abuse as a child and pushing her body to its limits as an adult had taken their toll, and Yoga proposed a whole new way of life that allowed her begin healing both physically and emotionally. The connection between mind, body and spirit allowed Victoria to begin practicing compassion, kindness and forgiveness towards herself.
Throughout the past decade, physical fitness and sports have the main focus of the courses she taught in her high school classes. Introducing Yoga to her high school students has been a rewarding experience. She is very grateful for the opportunity to bring her students peace, a quiet space, and loving kindness towards themselves, with the hope that these feelings of empowerment and joy will radiate outwards towards all other beings we share this wonderful planet with.
Victoria looks forward to guiding all of her students on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and acceptance.

Sarah began her yoga journey 4 years ago when she received a yoga mat for Christmas. She started taking Hatha yoga classes before she discovered the Moksha yoga series. Since, she has been hooked on the challenge and sweat offered in the hot room and all of the benefits she has received from her practice in her daily life. Stress and anxiety are two major demons in Sarah’s life, and she sees yoga as having profound effects on helping her to curb these feelings. Working towards completing her undergraduate degree at McMaster in a Combined Honors in Cultural Studies Critical Theory & Psychology, Sarah likes to incorporate her psychology background in her teaching. No, she will not psychoanalyze you. But she will challenge you to look at your thoughts and foster a more positive mindset on your yoga mat. Along with teaching yoga and studying at school, Sarah’s hobbies include singing, dancing, poetry writing, and going to punk rock shows. Open your heart, open your mind.

Doug has been a career firefighter for over 15 years. Looking for an outlet for the stresses of the job he turned to triathlon and competed passionately for several years. He qualified for the Canadian National age group triathlon team in 2008 and competed at the World Championships that year in Vancouver. Intense training eventually led to numerous recurring injuries. Acting on advice from friends and fellow triathletes Doug tried yoga in order to gain some much needed flexibility. Taking his first hot yoga class proved challenging to him on many levels, but a small spark was all that was required to ignite a passion. Since that first class Doug began taking classes every day, many daily doubles and even some triples. Doug completed the Moksha Teacher Training in Las Vegas in 2009. Doug still rides his bicycle a great deal for pleasure and commuting when possible. An around the world bicycle tour (teaching and practicing yoga along the way) is how he sees his distant future. But for now, living in the moment, one breath at a time and sharing his passion for yoga has brought him a great sense of peace and wellbeing.

Joy started yoga at her local gym in 2004. After a short introduction to Capoeria, she decided to dive deeper into a intense yoga practice. After her first hot yoga class in Oakville, she took a full 10 minute final savasana and became hooked ever since. She completed her Moksha Teacher Training in Kerala, India in March 2008. The experience became so embedded in her soul that she holds every moment and person she encounterd in her heart.
Joy graduated from York University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree attaining a double major in Sociology and Communication Studies. While teaching in Trinidad for the winter months of 08/09 she also completed her Level 1 & 2 training of Thai Yoga Massage in Tobago, with founder of Lotus Palm, Kam Thye Chow. In Janurary 2010 she successfully completed a Mindfulness Yoga Teacher Training with Frank Jude Boccio.
The greatest teachers are always conscious they are first, foremost, and always students, learning to appreciate all the lessons each moment has to offer. Joy understands when one strays from the fundamentals, the ability to focus is the next to go. With that in light, she is always using mindful breath awareness, keeps an open mind and, more importantly, an open heart. She looks forward to teaching and learning; listening and loving. She hopes to one day grow into her full name; Josephine.
